The US and Iran appeared no closer on May 9 to finding an end to their war after the two sides traded fire in the Gulf amid a fragile ceasefire, while a US intelligence analysis concluded Tehran could withstand a naval blockade for months.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that a Marshalls Islands-flagged oil tanker carrying Chinese crew was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on May 4, where Iran's ambassador to China said they will never open fire on ships belonging to their allies.
